The Queen’s Visit to Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo is hosting Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh today the 17th of May 2012. The occasion will be marked by the opening of Chester Zoo’s ‘gateway to conservation’, through the unveiling of the Diamond Jubilee Quarter.

Catch all the news about the new main entrance, called the Diamond Jubilee Quarter right from the source, since the visit will be screened live on the Chester Zoo website. Which means, you can have comfortable front row seats for this historic visit, even if you can’t visit your favourite zoo to be part of the event.

If you really wish to be part of the scene though, Chester Zoo officials recommend that you book your tickets online and avail 20% off the normal admission price and Fast Track admission to avoid the hassle of standing in queues.

What’s more – to mark this very special day Cheshire West and Chester Council have promised to provide free park and ride travel to and from the Upton Park and Ride site.

Chester Zoo – Members’ Christmas Lunch

What a treat! If you are a member of Chester Zoo, you can attend the Members’ Christmas Lunch served planned for 3 December, at 12pm in Oakfield Manor. At 2 pm, listen to the Director General of the zoo talk ‘Review of 2011′ in the Lecture Theatre.

Check out the menu for adults and children at Members Christmas Lunch and make sure you book your date at the zoo.

If you do not happen to be a zoo member it is possible to become a member. However, the organizers have planned for Christmas Lunches open to non-members throughout December.

You may think that virtual tours are meant for armchair tourists only. Think again. Imagine the possibilities if you were to have a preview of places you intend to visit, but have not quite found the right chance or leisure.

‘Virtual Chester‘ is a site that has been designed to provide something for anyone who has an interest in Chester’s rich architectural and cultural heritage. The site is managed by Chester City Council and a few local partners like Chester Civic Trust.

There are about 500 historic photographs, scanned and described by volunteers from the Civic Trust and by members of the City Council’s staff, with assistance from the History and Heritage Centre.

How to take the virtual tour – If you decide on taking the virtual tour, you may explore the city’s heritage through a 3D “fly-by” tour. Alternately, you can search for themes, locations and historical periods. You can view and enlarge a range of photographs related to each area of interest, and access plenty of other information.

To use the 3D and panorama features, you will need to download “Cortona” and “Quicktime” (you can choose the options as they pop up on screen).
